Pet Vaccinations Are The Key to Preventing Disease
Starting when your new pet is about 8 weeks old, we will administer vaccinations. Prevention of disease by immunization is easy and quick, and we tailor the vaccinations your pet receives by taking his or her lifestyle and contact with other animals into account. For example, if you choose to board your dog, a preventive vaccine against bordetella, commonly known as kennel cough, is necessary.
Core Vaccines
Core vaccines for dogs include:
- Distemper
- Parvovirus
- Leptospirosis
- Rabies
- Bordetella
Core vaccines for cats are:
- Rabies
- Feline distemper combination
- Feline leukemia
Most puppies and kittens require up to three rounds of vaccines, as well as deworming. Likewise, the needs and lifestyle of your pet are taken into consideration when we determine what kinds of parasite prevention are necessary.
Heartworm Prevention
Because heartworm is such a big problem in our area, we want to make sure that your pet is protected against this easily preventable disease. Rocklin Ranch Veterinary Hospital prescribes monthly heartworm preventive for your pet to take year round.
Each time you and your pet come in for a visit, we will review your pet’s individualized records and vaccine boosters will be given as needed. We look forward to your questions about disease and parasite prevention, so feel free to bring them to your pet’s wellness visit or call our office.
